Creatng Animated Gifs is relatively easy
and any video application can do it, although they all do it in different
ways. For purpose of illustration, I am going to use Adobe Premiere
6.5 as its the absolute easiest.
1) Open Premiere and import the video clip you want to sample. Drag
the video to the timeline.
2) Zoom in on your time line to a 1 second view and limit your work
arrow to 5 seconds

3) Click on FILE->EXPORT->MOVIE and then select ANIMATED GIF from
the drop down menu
4)Click "next" in the lower right and in the video section, deselect
the 4:3 aspect ratio radio button, change your dimensions to height
equals 100 and width equals 75 and set your frame rate to 15, make
sure "square pixels" is set as your pixel aspect ratio

5) Click OK and then name your file, save it, and you can upload
it to the web.

Remember that no shot description will be exact, which is why its a must to either
do a storyboard, or a sample shot list, that describes your vision to your Director
of Photography. One person's mid shot (MS) is another person's medium shot (also
MS).

This is an example of Depth of Field, but also shows you how to simulate Depth
of Field with a consumer single chip camera.
